Festival Komunitas Seni Media (FKSM) is held at Fort Rotterdam in Makassar, carrying the theme "Jelajah Jala", which intertwines two core concepts: “jelajah” (exploration); representing a journey through Makassar’s rich history and culture, and “jala” (net), a symbol of connection, technological networks, and communication systems. The theme draws inspiration from the local folktale Sinrijala, infusing the festival with mythological resonance.

Through this theme, FKSM 2024 invites visitors to reflect on how history, mythology, and technology have evolved in Makassar. It brings forward local knowledge systems, such as the traditional fishing net (jala); a tool deeply embedded in the everyday lives of Makassar’s coastal communities and integrates it with bamboo structures. These materials are thoughtfully combined to shape the festival’s spatial design, creating an immersive environment that physically embodies the intersection of tradition, connectivity, and future-facing artistic expression.
